About
“I want the simplicity of ingredients to shine through, but still have these bold sledgehammers of flavor.”
Josh Sickels began his pizza journey in 2016 in his tiny Greenfield apartment, opening Rockaway Pizzeria in White Oak just a year later. A former touring drummer, he brought creativity and ambition to pizza-making, initially focusing on classic New York-style pies. Over time, he evolved his craft, blending influences from New Haven, Philadelphia, and modern American styles, while maintaining the pizza’s New York City roots.
In 2020, he expanded to a larger space, adding unique pan and specialty style pizzas, while constantly refining his technique. Rockaway gained a strong following, drawing regional and national acclaim.
Now, with a move to Regent Square and the upcoming launch of Rockaway 3.0, Sickels aims to redefine the landscape of Pittsburgh’s pizza scene.
